    Default Ball flight laws

My ball flight is usually quite high, and I was under the impression that it wasn't the best ball flight to have. Even now, I think that under certain circumstances, particularly on windy days while hitting into the wind, it is likely making me lose distance.

In my search concerning ball flights, I came across many videos about ball flight height.

Golf instruction - High ball flight - YouTube

Golf instruction - Low ball flight - YouTube

While slightly off topic, the last one explains in a quite simple manner hooks, draws, fades and slices:

    Hope these help

I have been trying to reduce my high fliers as well.

    Good vids...

With my higher than normal shots...
In my case it has been too much spin and putting the ball too far forward.
In the strong wind last Friday the combination of the wind and high shots over exaggerated the spin and made what would have been a slight slice a monster slice. Putting the driver away and bringing out the 3W immediately corrected the problem. (no tee ).

Am seriously thinking about getting the same shaft that is on my 3W for my driver.

Our lesson that day also addressed keeping the ball low with an open stance, and an inside, inside hook swing. We also did the opposite to pop the ball up higher with a closed stance and an outside straight-in swing. This was done with approach wedges so I guess there is much more room for error when trying this with longer shots.

I like the throwing the ball analogy as well; as our instructor often has us throwing balls to get our mind on the job.

Thanks for the reply Makken. Glad to see your swing is straightening out with your lessons.
As far as changing your driver shaft to the same kind as your 3W shaft, you may want to be careful. The weight of your driver head is most likely not the same as the weight of the 3W head. So, changing the shaft most likely won't make it perform the same as your 3W. I did a lot of tinkering with a lot of drivers and shafts trying to find the right combination, and have learned the hard (read EXPENSIVE) way how NOT to make a driver fit. I still like to tinker a bit with drivers, but in Japan it is a little more difficult due to the cost of assembly, and the cost of heads and shafts. IMO, the best person to ask would most likely be Pete over at Cool Clubs.

BOT... figuring out spin in relation to swing path, face angle, loft, and angle of attack (let alone the lie of the terrain the ball is on) is enough to frustrate golfers like nothing else, so it is wise to keep it simple and not over think it.

I did see an interesting video with a Trackman that showed Domenic Maza hitting in the Remax Long Drive. The drive to pay attention to is near the 2:00 mark.

The ball starts off to the right, in a fade/slice, but at the apex, comes down further left than what it was launched at. I'm not writing about the bounce, I mean the spin on the ball while it is on the way down causes the ball to turn back towards the center of the grid. Of course a golfer would need a tremendous amount of swing speed to get the ball high enough to do this, but it can also be done fairly easily with a table tennis ball and a paddle

I went to the range and was ahem... a little distracted by the golfer in front of me. I thought it was a hidden camera TV show so I started looking for hidden cameras out of the corner of my eye. Hell, I even used the small mirror near the ball dispenser to try and spot the cameras behind me. For a while I was expecting a confetti bomb to be dropped on me, coupled with a bunch of loud, party music and people popping out from behind stuff when the gig was up. I was so gun-shy that when the pins on the greens fell down with a clang to begin sweeping balls off the greens I was startled and jumped in my stance only to chuckle at the silliness of the whole situation.

Seriously though, this golfer spent more time setting up for a shot than Dale Chihuly's crew does setting up for an art exhibition. The worst thing was trying to decipher his set-up. His spine looked like it was fused with his elbow, while his forward leg was splayed, and bent about 470 degrees supinated. His back leg was fine though. If I was his golf instructor, that would probably the default compliment part of his swing when he's about ready to give up golf because of the 82% whiff ratio with the PW.

With all that said, anyone have a link for ball flight laws on sculled shots? I couldn't hit for

I will try to do that. But, if I can, don't expect too much because the video may be a bit shaky from me trying to hold in the chuckles
