Congratulations to Mike, Jorn, Anette and Shigeru who won the Summer Scramble on Saturday with a gross score of 64.
It was a great day out and we got lucky again with the rainy season weather. A couple of short showers but not enough to dampen anyone's spirits.
Here are the results:
And some photos:

Had a great time Grant.
Thanks Caroline and Niwayama-san for the fantastic day.
Looking forward to the Autumn Scramble!
Mmmn... not scheduled?
Well then, let's organize one.
Cheers!

I think the Scramble format could appear quarterly- would be interested in Golfjin member feedback on this concept. Certainly the Strokes of Luck had a good day
and the Captain even managed to stay out of the bus photo - I would never participate in such debauchery.

I don't think anyone suggested it would forever be at Tsutsujigaoka....besides which this was the first time to do a 4-person scramble and the first time to do an event at that course for over a year. Not a fan of the course?
@ Peter/Yasu:
A quarterly event sounds good to me. Let's think about holding one in October. I'll figure out a date that fits our Autumn schedule
Course suggetions welcome but please bear in mind most Golfjin members do not want to pay Ĩ20,000 just for green fees which limits choices if choosing Chiba prefecture....The B&G Cup will be at Moonlake so not that one![]()
I'm heading out toof Ozland tonight so might not be online as frequently - back in 2 weeks. I don't know many courses but will try and do some Yen/quality based research.
The kicker for me is the 4 person team - gives everyone a chance to participate and the results last week, with no handicaps, were really quite close (although SOMEONE remarked "not low enough").

Steve (Smork) is right both Central New and Central are good courses and relatively cheap and are in S. Ibaraki and have good access via the Narita motorway, which never seems to be busy.
The problem, i imagine for Grant, is that it is hard to book courses in Chiba as they have cancellation fees and it is difficult to book for large groups without knowing definate numbers. Courses in other prefectures seem to have less stringent requirements.
Good points Taff. These are also issues for busier golf areas when it comes to large bookings.
Basically, if I chose a good (and more expensive) course in Chiba for the Autumn Scramble, I'd probably limit it to 16 or 20 to make sure the spots were all filled. Personally, I think it's more enjoyable if we have more teams/players which means choosing a slightly cheaper and more flexible course to make sure we get the numbers.
I like Chiba New (apart from the Accordia greens) but that course is not easily accessible by train which could be an issue. Long journey + Ĩ5,000 taxi x 2.
Central has a club bus service but it's a 1h50m train journey to get to the station. Could be a possible option though Steve
Arranging a large/medium-sized outing 101:
(Things that need to be considered)
1. How much is the overall per person cost of doing an event there (green fee, lunch, party food etc.)?
2. Will the above cost be okay for enough members to fill all the slots?
3. How easy is it to make a group booking?
4. How far is the course?
5. Is the course accessible by train (and club bus)?
6. Will you need to hire a coach?
7. If you need to hire a coach, will you have enough bums on seats on the coach to make the cost reasonable?
8. Is the course strict or flexible (ie OK with late changes, no cancellation fees)?
9. Will the course offer any prizes for the competition?
10. Is the course over-crowded on weekends?
There's more but I think you get the picture.
Suggestions by other members need to be a little more constrcutive than just "let's play in Chiba"...![]()
Letīs play in Chiba.![]()
