The 4-Club Challenge @ Murasakizuka GC, June 12
For the 4-Club Challenge, we managed to dodge rainy season which given our recent luck with the weather was a result in itself. It was hot n humid but was dry all day.
This was our first time to play this format and it was interesting to see all the different club selection strategies.
The top points scorer went with:
Driver, 5 Wood, PW & Putter
Not a selection I would’ve made but it worked for him. Personally, I opted for 5 wood, 5 iron, 9 iron & putter. 9 iron --> PW next time!
Shots of the day (that I witnessed):
James “The Bomber” Allen hitting driver off the deck on 2 of the Par 5’s. Pin high with his 2nd shots on both holes.
(Just need to work on that short game of yours)
And here are the results:
Kieron was disqualified for being a bandit () and the first prize went to Graham Kelly. Enjoy the bottle of Jonnie Walker Blue Label Graham.
Near Pin Winners:
Paul B
Grant P
James A
We’ll definitely be playing this format again and hopefully we can get a lot more members signed up next time. You can learn a lot playing with just 4 clubs and it's fun trying to get creative with the limited clubs you have
Charity Prize draw:
And even though there were only 11 of us, we managed to raise a further ¥70,000 for charity.
Nike Stand Bag: James Allen
Nike Stand Bag: Peter McEntyre
Nike Driver (Worth ¥82,000!): Kieron Cashell (Fix!)
Nike Driver: Steve Novosel
Some photos:
The Winner - Graham (After Kieron disqaulified himself)
Looking forward to the next 4-club challange![]()

I had a ton of fun and definitely learned what clubs NOT to use next time!
Pretty sure I had two SW shots per hole that should have been one. That's 18 shots at least I muffed...not counting countless others. Was nice to finally get my first game in for the year.... And to win the Bag was a bonus... almost bought a new one on Saturday night...
Yes 4 below my handicap was a bit suspect alright with only 4 clubs!
I did relinquish the scotch and have put myself down to a 20!
At least I'm still the Golfjin arm werestling champion.
Thanks for all who came out on Sunday and who gave so generously to our fund raising efforts for the kids who have lost parents in the Tsunami
Next up the scramble!
Come on now Greg, i only won cos you and warren the original Golfjin bandits were not there!![]()
