The 3rd annual Sakura Cup @ Murasakizuka GC, Tochigi, Apri 9 2011
Well, I guess I’ve been getting too used to writing “it was a beautiful day for golf” so looking on the bright side, at least I get to write something different this time.
On Saturday, it was wet and cold and proceeded to get wetter and colder through the day. But despite the pretty nasty conditions, 39 Golfjins and friends braved the elements to compete in the 3rd annual Sakura Cup.
The Competitors:
Firstly, a massive thanks to the sponsors for this event. We had some very generous contributions all of which helped us raise money for Japan’s Red Cross.
Sponsors:
Philippe from Le Petit Tonneau
Todd from Orca Wine
Pacific Islands Club Saipan
Tom Fielding (PGA Pro)
John Parker from Good Field Golf Club
Evelyn Claude Jewelry
Murasakizuka Golf Club

And er....here's a photo from Fridays round when the weather was slightly better:
We were quite surprised by how much damage the earthquake caused Murasakizuka given how far it is from the coast. As you can see above, one of their toilet shacks on the course took a bit of a hit!
Too much rain, but a fun tournament none-the-less. Thanks to the everyone who helped organize it and volunteered.
Thanks again to Yasu for the bananas--it isn't a real Golfjin event without them!
Also, one correction--the "Villagolf" wine won by Greg, Graham and Rei was donated by me, not Orca. Any complaints about this wine should be directed my way!![]()
Already looking forward to the Kouyou Cup.![]()
Thanks for pointing that out Jack. Fixed the comments.

Wow we had lots of rain - soaking wet after the 1st hole! The pro shop guy loved me after buying 2 shirts and finally a totally waterproof jacket ...... had a great round though and played with a really fun team!
It was so good to see everyone and was glad I came up friday night - will spend the night again at the hotel - comfortable bed for a change!
Thanks to all that braved the weather and helped raise the charity funds that are so needed at this time! Will post some pics as soon as I return to solid ground in Ishikawa-ken!
Great event despite the floods!
That pro shop guy saw me coming too!
Sold me some Siberian ski team sauna pants so I could attend the awards party. It was either that or the pink summer hot pants!
Congrats to Laura (excellent round), Justin, etc. and thanks to the sponsors. The wine is in the fridge Jack!
Looking forward to the World Cup. Hopefully my partner the Brisbane Bandit will break 140 and we do more than capture the worst dressed prize!![]()
