If you like match play and team golf events here is a rare chance to play both!
Inspired by the Ryder Cup format, the Samurai Cup is a two-day team tournament based on match play, offering a combination of foursomes and single matches. We will attempt to make the pairings fairly even in order to make each match interesting and competitive.
There are slots/beds for a maximum of 28 golfers.
Just like at the Ryder Cup, there will be no individual prizes (apart from long drives and near pins) but there will be a trophy for the winning team -- it now sits in the Green Team's trophy warehouse after they won last year to take a 2-1 lead in the event! Can the Reds get their revenge this year?
The event will take place at Windsor Park Golf Club in Mito on Sept. 16 (Fri.) and 17 (Sat.) and will include the following:
18 holes of fourball matchplay (9 holes Texas Scramble/Ambrose; 9 holes Best Ball; 9 holes foursomes) on Day 1
Lunch
Dinner (drinks paid separately)
Overnight stay at Windsor
Breakfast
18 holes of singles on Day 2
Lunch after 9 holes (If more than 1050 yen menu item is selected, an extra charge will be added to the bill)
Award party
The cost for the above is 31,310 yen for Windsor Park members, 33,310 yen for non-members payable to Windsor Park.
We will tee off from 8:05 am on the first day so we can play 27 holes.
If you are interested in taking part in this event, please sign up here, including your handicap.
Single rooms will be allocated on a first-come basis. Please indicate if you would like a twin.
James Allen will captain the Red Team this year with Don Cherry as his assistant while yours truly and Grant will guide the Green Team. I hear rumors James has been on a recruiting mission the last four months ... don't forget your skirt mate!![]()

Would that I could--I'll still be back in the US with the kids.
Looks like a lot of fun, though. Have a great tournament.
This will be awesome!
I'm maybe for this for various reasons.
However, I think it might be difficult to have the event on both Friday and Saturday. Not possible to do it Saturday/Sunday?
Just sayin' that people who work on Friday might not be able to take it off easily.![]()
Mike, the main problem with having the event on a Saturday/Sunday is the cost balloons.
Plus many members have family commitments that require them to be home at least one day a weekend.
By playing 27 holes on a Friday we also have more flexibility with format, exclusive use of the restaurant, etc.
People have close to 2.5 months to juggle their schedules.
Sorry, I can't please everyone.

Greg, no need to apologize mate.
I was just thinking it might be a bit easier for people who are pulling the typical mon-fri working gig to be able to join if it was Sat/Sun.
I totally understand what you mean by the Fri/Sat thing.
As such, the event last year was so much fun, I will do my darndestto get Friday clear. Cheers
Good luck, we have had Mystery Men sightings in the past at these events ...![]()

Graham, all prizes appreciated!
Could come in handy for MVP prizes, etc.
If you could leave them with Yano san that would be great.
PS You're not kitting up for the Gunners are ya?![]()

How can I get there before 8 o´clock tee-time?
On yer bike
[We always figure out car pools for this somehow]
Hey, that is not a bad idea. I´m doing some KM almost everyday so 100 KM should be ok. Can you take my golfbag?
Can´t wait for this event.

Hey big guy!
It's a mere 135K to Windsor from your place, so if you start walking by late afternoon on Friday, I'm sure you'll get close.
Otherwise, you can snatch a ride with me and Spike (depending on if the catmobile is available).
Greg, since tee time is too early to make it by train, unless new management is willing to send out a club bus to pickup at 7:30, which is still going to be a bi*ch as trains will be very limited.
I think a car-pool is called for.
Anybody else?????
I count 7 car owners (+ 3 unknowns) in that list so car pools should be doable.
Best to get this organized sooner rather than later.
I'm hoping for a lift in Don Cherry's Shibuya Speed-mobile![]()

Who is willing to give the giant a lift?![]()

Cap'n Greenteam - of course I know who the Gunners are - I was indeed referring to the blitzcrieg over the weekend. "Don't mention the war" comes from John Cleese aka Basil Fawlty. Very deep - sorry
And yes - a car ride will be helpful - mine is in Sydney!
I have a 1938 Estima van, four wheels, front glass, can hold 5-6 in comfort. (8 squeezed with club restrictions.)
Warren has a similar van though he may be going up with his Japanese mates from Shizuoka or with me.
Marcus has a 2015 model Honda van, can hold four or more.
I can pick up from Ogikubo Station, a mere FOUR stops (Ya here that Grant FOUR or TWO on a weekend!!!![]()
) from Shinjuku on the Chuo Line.
So who needs a ride?
And more importantly we need FOUR more players! Free signed Hooked Hacker "Four-for-Four" Calllway ball for any late sign-ups.
(Disclaimer: Unwanted gift from James and Chris that are cursed!![]()
