Breaking news: Tiger's out!
Tiger Woods announces he will miss U.S. Open - Tours & News - Golf.com
Foreboding Forecast: McDowell says no one will break par during U.S. Open at Congressional
Granto's predictions: Best taken with a very large pinch of salt as my prediction record is somewhat questionable.
The Defender: Graeme McDowell
G-Mac was unsuccessful in defending his Wales Open crown 2 weeks ago. He was in the mix after the 2nd round but had a shocker (81!) on the Saturday and never recovered from that. He’s a scrapper and has the game for very tough courses but the form’s not there right now so I can’t see him doing much here. I hope he does but it’s looking unlikely.
Prediction: Make the cut but not much more.
The Contenders:
Rory McIlroy - Rory really should have walked away with the Masters back in April but lost the plot in round 4 and it all went very pear-shaped. He has a major point to prove so if he can keep the last round nerves at bay, he could be in with a good chance.
Dustin Johnson/Matt Kuchar/Nick Watney - All 3 of these guys have the game to win a major and this could well be one of their times. DJ finally got rid of his muppet caddy so at least he won’t be hampered by 2-shot penalties for not knowing the rules and should be at the tee ground when he's supposed to be.
KJ Choi - Playing some stellar golf right now and definitely has the mentality to close out a big win.
Luke Donald - Leading the Fed Ex Cup, Leading the Race to Dubai, No.1 in the World, No.1 on the PGA tour and No.1 on the European Order of Merit. In others words - In the form of his life! Almost a certain bet to finish in the Top 10 whenever he tees it up at the moment and he’s bound to fancy his chances. This course will play very long for him but his steady game should suit him well.
Dark horse: Ernie Els
Won the US Open when it was last played here in 1997. Hasn’t done much this year but could be in the mix come Sunday.
Winner: Lee Westwood
C’mon Lee - it’s about time you bagged a major!

At least people can vote and not give away who they have in their team (if they don't want to)
Everyone got their team picked?
Some tough choices this week.....
Ninja Gophers ready!
And the USGA has put together some interesting groups:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/7...or-the-us-open
The Italians: Francesco Molinari, Matteo Manassero, and Edoardo Molinari.
The Spanish: Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia, and Alvaro Quiros.
The Swedes: Henrick Stenson, Johan Edfors, and Fredrik Jacobson.
The World top 3: Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, and Martin Kaymer

OK - you can read it here first - since I am not in the Golfjin Fantasy League, but I am in the Yahoo Sports Fantasy Golf - currently in 4,074th position which is 97th percentile so there are a lot of players (dammit - I was up in the 99th at 500th but lost focus for two weeks). Well here is my preliminary 4 for the US Open plus the bench;
Playing:
Matt Kuchar
Steve Stricker
Angel Cabrera
Jason Day
Bench:
Geoff Ogilvy
Retief Goosen
Charl Schwartzel
Adam Scott
Call me crazyor maybe call me 90th Percentile
after the weekend. If you choose to follow my lead just remember I reserve the right to act rationally before the deadline.

Really looking forward to the US Open. I have absolutely no idea who is going to win it.
Interesting article in the Telegraph:
US Open 2011: Phil Mickelson talks up home hopes as America stands on brink of a new low - Telegraph

My friend will enter!
Can you get US open on TV ?
It's listed to be on Terebi Asahi from about 4.20am.
Once you get sick of the Ishikawa roadshow, I'd recommend checking out if someone's streaming a US or UK channel on Veetle:
Veetle - Broadcast live streaming video in HD
hahahahhaa...thanx man.
McIlroy's at it again!
BBC Sport - US Open: Rory McIlroy delivers Congressional lesson
He played some superb golf though
And well done Robert Rock who shot 1 under with about 10 minutes sleep and zero preparation on this course!
All my team's 4 over or worse -![]()
Re TV coverage - Granto is correct, the Terebi Asahi coveragesuggests there is only one person playing at the US Open so Ishikawa must surely make the cut and win, right?
An alternative if you have cable - I was surprised to see it on The Golf Network this morning (that is C254 in Minato-ku) and the picture quality is good too, it doesn't look like one of those pirated video sports shows. It is the US coverage, and in English mostly. C'mon Aussies.![]()

Wow! McIlroy is killing it again! 10 under after 8 holes in his 2nd round.
He will pee in his pants on sunday as usual![]()
If he plays as well again on Saturday, he might be too far ahead to be bothered about nerves![]()

Mr. Kuboya will probably make the cut!
Both of Ryo and him are over par though...
Yes, Terebi Asahi is....![]()
Rory is slauthering this compe!
Sunday at the US Open is going to be fascinating - if history were to repeat with top guys repeating their Masters Sunday rounds, Rory shooting 80, Jason shooting 68 and Lee a 70, Jason wins at -8 then Lee at -6 and Rory at -5. Is an 8 shot lead ever good enough unless you are Tiger in your heyday? C'mon Aussies. But I cannot see Rory faltering this time - a famous victory awaits.

I seem to have really lucked out besides captain Donald. Jason Day and Choi were 50/50, but I went with Day and I dropped D. Johnson for Mcilroy on the last day. If. H. Frazar can go low today, it will be a good weeks work for the Welsh wizards
Also really impressed by Westwood - the guy never gives up.
Well done McIlroy for closing out victory in consumata style!
Thrashed the field he did
