Milfeuille Golf Club, Chiba: Course review
Japanese homepage: Link
Myself, Taff, Marc R and Goober played this course on Dec.28th.
Despite being contender for one of the silliest names for a golf course*, we all enjoyed playing here and agreed it was definitely worth another visit.
(Millefeuille - is the name of a French Dessert)
We got very lucky with the weather; after some light drizzle early on, the skies cleared and we were blessed with a beautiful winters day and near perfect golf conditions.
Traveling there:
By car: From central Tokyo it would take about 1h10mins (Keiyo Expressway, Soga I.C)
By train: About 1h to Goi station from Tokyo (Sobu line then Uchibo line) and then 25 minutes by Taxi. There is no club bus.
The Course:
This is an 18-hole course that was built in 1996.
White tees: 6,156
Back tees: 6,727
No JGA rating.
There are a few not so spectacular holes but also some crackers. A couple of the par 3’s have very challenging tee shots over water. Here’s a couple of pictures of the Par 3 8th:
From the back tees, this would be a rock hard hole.
Like most courses in Japan, fairly narrow with OB down both sides but on most par 4’s and 5’s you can take driver from the tee and not be unfairly punished for a slightly errant shot. Water comes into play on 6 holes. Interesting greens in good condition considering the time of year.
From the white tees a few of the par 4’s are pretty short.
The Clubhouse:
Not quite sure what the architect was aiming for here - French palace? English Edwardian Mansion?
Facilities:
There’s a 250 yard driving range, bunker area and decent putting green to warm up on.
Food: Average. Usual clubhouse grub.
Staff: Pretty friendly - no English speakers
Cost: Currently charging ¥7,000 for a weekday and ¥13,810 for a weekend so reasonable compared to other Chiba courses.
Play time: Pretty good for a Chiba course on a holiday. The course was fully booked but we didn’t have to wait around too much on the tees.
Negatives:
1. Remote-controlled carts that go 2mph. Although, the course is fairly flat so you can walk most of the holes and let the invisible Mickey Mouse drive himself.
2. After we had finished our round, we wanted to have a beer in the restaurant but it was already closed! Not sure if this was because it was a weekday or if this is the case on all days.
Conclusion:
A pretty good course definitely worth a visit or two. Cheaper than most Chiba courses and easy to get to from Tokyo if you have a car.![]()

It was built in 1996? Wow, looking at the clubhouse, I assumed it was built during the 80s by someone expecting million-dollar membership fees and was now having to scale back. The clubhouse shows a lot of signs of owners having aimed for the stars during the design phase but not being able to follow through on the day-to-day maintenance. Still, that's just the clubhouse; the course was great (so at least they have their priorities straight!)
Yeah, it looked like the outside of the clubhouse hasn't seen a paint brush since '96![]()
