Received a letter last night from Windsor Park about the course’s new business hours for January and February.
Not good news at all …
On all Mondays and Tuesdays during Jan. and Feb. the course will be CLOSED! (Except Jan 4 and public holidays.)
The course will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during these months but they will be “self days,” i.e., cash payment required in advance at starters area (NO CREDIT CARDS). Lockers, showers/bath and safety boxes are NOT available. Fees, yet to be announced, include 1050 yen worth of lunch (only one menu each day). Jan. 10 and Feb. 11 (public holidays are exceptions.)
Accommodation only available on Saturday nights plus (Jan. 1-4, 9 and Feb. 11.)
They did mention they will give away “special tickets” to all members at the beginning of 2011.
By virtually closing the course midweek for two months I’m concerned people will find new favorite courses to play and the move will have a knock-on effect that damages future business.
A hot bath and cold beer after skiing the slopes of Windsor was a highlight of the winter season.
Hope the wild boars don't take up residence in the suites!![]()

I got that letter too. Pretty ordinary if you ask me.
As for the accomodation, its those nights your specified and all Saturday nights that you can stay over.
Chris
Yeah, not sure if it's going to be a smart move.....save money maybe but.....
- Advance Payment required in Cash prior to Tee off
- Credit Cards NOT accepted
- Lockers, Showers/Bath and Safety Boxes NOT available........
(This is kinda a big one for me...)

So I imagine no club bus neither?
Anyway without shower, I don't really feel to take the train!
There's a couple of hundred other courses in the area we can play... Why not more at Tsutsujigaoka or Murasakizuka? They always treat us well.
I can understand January, to some extent. It's usually only the hardier golfers of a weekend and I'd guess there would be very few during the week. If you want to play during the week there is still three more days. Given the conditions last February I can kind of understand what they are doing. I have seen pictues of HH playing in a blizzard and we were snowed off in February last year.
As a member, I would rather see the club try to save money (hopefully) than have to sell out to Accordia who would then take our memberships and then make us pay twice as much to play.
They said there will be some vouchers, possibly to try and offset the restricted conditions Wednesday to Friday so let's see what they are.
Finally, before we start writing the club off, how many Golfjin members actually play there during the week and in particular January or February.
Cheers

I am not going to complain. I played a lot last year in January and February and regretted most of the times I played as it was simply to cold. In addition, weekdays are almost a no go area as the cost of getting there on a weekday in a car makes the weekday discount negligble.
I just hope they keep up their very reasonable weekend rates - its nice to play for less then 10,000yen including lunch.
i wont complain either. i am in the group of people who simply refuse to play golf in january and february.![]()
maybe it saves the greens a bit too giving the course a break??
Obviously they need to save some money during the off season. This I understand. However, to do away with lockers and a hot shower during the times they're open during the off season is kinda like, well, stinky.. Just sayin'
Even with 3-4 people in the car?
The 7000 yen (return) trip for a one-hour ride in the train stings. Sure it's beyond their control but I don't know why that Joban Line is so expensive compared to other JR lines.
Maybe because we don't see snow or frozen greens in sunny Sydney, I have some fond memories of winter golf there: The 'Hole in One' master sliding on his arse down the split in the 10th fairways; getting snowed out on the 12th on the same day after Ping and his caddy, er "partner" refused to melt against the "hardened" Bravehearts
; wedge shots trampolining 30-feet in the air on the 1st green ...
I just hope the workers up there can find other jobs to tie them over.
I've been AWOL at WP lately but will try to get up there more.
Samurai Cup set for November lads.

Actually, condsidering the conditions above were during the usual balmy month of April, its no wonder they chose to cut back a bit in January.
In all honesty, its probably not a bad thing that they close on Mondays and Tuesdays to save a bit of dosh during winter. As Ping clearly pointed out...who really plays there on a Monday or Tuesday during Winter who couldnt actually play on Friday instead? Turning the showers off though is a bit rough, especially in the middle of winter.
Cheers

I think its a good thing if it keeps the prices down I don't mind dropping the frills. Plus, I wouldn't think about taking a day off from work in Jan/Feb to play a round of golf, rather save my vacation days for the nicer weather months.

LOL![]()

Greg,
For the millionth time I told you not to exaggerate![]()
You guys need to learn how to snowboard...
I will wait to see what the rates are before getting too worked up. At the end of the day this sounds like playing at my home course in Canada, no showers, no frills but it is golf and I can't do that at all in January or February.
There are plenty of courses stateside that close 1 day a week all year long.
